The University of Macau (UM) today (22 November) held a UM Teaching Excellence Award Seminar. Jeremy De Chavez, recipient of the UM Teaching Excellence Award 2020/2021 and assistant professor in the Department of English, was the keynote speaker. During the talk, he discussed the power of stories and how it can be harnessed as a pedagogical strategy. The talk attracted many UM faculty members and students, as well as members of the general public. According to De Chavez, stories not only can enhance students’ understanding of lecture content and stimulate their desire to learn, but also can help them develop a creative mindset, optimism, and a strong sense of belonging to society.
