The University of Macau (UM) on Thursday 8 July will hold a talk titled ‘Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the University of Macau: From Transparent Ocean to Digital Twin of the Ocean’, as part of the University Lecture Series. Wu Lixin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will be the keynote speaker.

In addition to being a CAS member, Wu is also the director of the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao) and vice president of the Ocean University of China. He is also the first oceanologist from China to become a member of the American Geophysical Union. Led by Wu, the lab has developed the Transparent Ocean research programme. During the talk, Wu will discuss the relationship between the research programme and the concept of the digital twin of the ocean. He will also talk about how to accurately monitor and predict activities in marine environments, as well as how to develop and manage resources from the ocean, in order to enhance people’s understanding of the oceans and their ability to manage them.
