Danny Chau, an alumnus of the University of Macau (UM), has been awarded a fellowship of the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF), one of the institutes in the United Kingdom that has gained a royal charter. Chau is the first person from Macao to receive this professional title.
After graduating from UM’s Department of Marketing in 2000, Chau found a job in the financial industry. Over the past two decades, he has garnered rich experience in the integration of Chinese and foreign companies. He is currently a director and co-founder of Goldchess Asia Consultant as well as a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Chartered Management Institute in the UK. Commenting on his being awarded the fellowship of the LIBF, he says he is grateful to UM for its quality education which helped lay a solid foundation for his career development.
Chau cares deeply about his alma mater and closely follows UM’s development. In addition to serving as the vice president of UM’s Alumni Association, he has also served as a mentor under the Alumni Mentorship Scheme organised by the Alumni and Development Office and a guest speaker for the leadership programmes organised by UM’s Honours College. He is also an active participant in social affairs. He has held positions in various local associations, including president of the Macao Marketing Institute, member of the Youth Committee of Macao Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and executive director of the Macao Youth Entrepreneur Association. Soon after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the beginning of this year, he established a medical supply factory in Macao to manufacture medical face masks in order to support the city’s anti-epidemic campaign.
Founded in 1879, the LIBF is one of the institutes in the UK with a royal charter. It is committed to providing professional and practical financial courses and financial capability qualifications to cultivate talent for the global financial industry. At present, the institute has 23,000 members worldwide, distributed in 120 countries and regions.
