The University of Macau (UM) held an honorary professorship conferment ceremony yesterday (15 October) in which an honorary professorship was conferred upon Prof. Franco Maloberti by UM Rector Wei Zhao in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the microelectronics field as well as his contributions to UM’s scientific research development. Following the ceremony Prof. Franco Maloberti delivered a speech entitled “Analog Design for Human-Centric Smart Living Technologies”.
UM’s Vice Rector Prof. Martins noted in the citation that Prof. Franco Maloberti is one of those rare individuals that devote their lives to science and academia, contributing significantly to the fast development of high and new technologies, in particular Microelectronics, as well as the nurturing of young professionals in this field.
Prof. Franco Maloberti is a distinguished scholar in the field of microelectronics with impressive research achievements, especially in integrated circuits design for data converters. He has written many academic works on this area and has published many outstanding academic papers on IEEE journals. He is among the three most famous scholars in the world in the field of data conversion and signal processing. He has published over 375 papers in various academic journals and conferences. He also has four published books. His research achievements have resulted in 29 patents. He was the recipient of the 12th Pedriali Prize in 1992 for his technical and scientific contributions to national industrial production. He was co-recipient of the 1996 Institute of Electrical Engineers Fleming Premium, the best Paper award, ESSCIRC-2007, and the best paper award, IEEJ Analog Workshop-2007.
He was the President of the IEEE Sensor Council from 2002 to 2003, and Vice-President, Region 8, of the IEEE CAS Society from 1995 to 1997. He once served as Associate Editor of IEEE TCAS-II. Presently he serves as Professor of Microelectronics at University of Pavia, Italy, Head of the Micro Integrated Systems Group of the University of Pavia, Vice-President (Publications) of IEEE CAS Society, and IEEE Fellow.
In recent years Prof. Franco Maloberti has been very active in advancing the development of UM’s scientific research. He serves as a scientific advisor on data conversion and signal processing for the Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI Laboratory of UM’s FST. Since he took over as the Associate Editor of IEEE TCAS-II, Prof. Franco Maloberti has been playing an active role in supporting UM in publishing its research achievements. He is the first expert to be invited to serve as a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the State Key Lab Partner Lab in Microelectronics that is about to be jointly established by UM and Fudan University’s ASIC & System State Key Lab. Last July he was invited by UM to serve as an external judge for the first doctoral thesis oral defense regarding data conversion technology.
