Pacific Graphics 2005, the Thirteenth Pacific Conference on Computer Graphics and Applications, organized by the University of Macau in cooperation with ACM/SIGGRAPH and the IEEE Macau Section, is now being held in Room Lotus of World Trade Centre Macau. This conference started on 12 October and will end on 14 October. Experts and scholars from all over the world have been gathering together, having discussions on the newest research in relation to computer graphics.

This year, there has been a very rigorous review of the papers submitted for the conference. The conference organizers have invited over 270 internationally renowned experts and formed a programme committee of more than 130 members, in order to review, in compliance with the standards of academic papers, the 267 papers submitted for the conference. Finally, 38 regular papers (an acceptance rate of 14%) have been accepted and will be presented in the conference. They will also be published in the special issue “Pacific Graphics 2005” of the Visual Computer International Journal of Computer Graphics (Springer). Professor Wu Enhua, Head of Department of Computer and Information Science of the University of Macau, is the invited editor of that issue. In the conference this year, internationally renowned scientists, including Dr Harry Shum (Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia), Professor Nadia Thalmann (Vice-rector of University of Geneva) and Professor Dinesh Manocha (University of North Carolina in the USA), will be presenting their reports. More than 150 experts and scholars have been participating in the conference. 70% of them have come from the USA, Europe or from other countries in Asia.

This conference has been co-organized with the Macao University of Science and Technology and the State Key Lab of CAD/CG of Zhejiang University, being sponsored by the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and the Macau Government Tourist Office.
