In congruence with the development of diversified industries in Macao, the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau (UM) held the Fong Yun Wah Distinguished Lectures – The Essence of Hospitality Management and Its Progress in Asia on 5 Dec at the Luso Chinese Building, UM Sponsored by Dr. Fong Yun Wah, the Lecture has invited Professor Kam-hon Lee, Director of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Dr. Andy Nazarechuk, Dean of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Singapore Campus, to speak at the Lecture on the topics “Positioning Hospitality Management as a Field of Academic Study: The Experience of The Chinese University of Hong Kong” and “Management’s Role in the Pursuit of Quality in the Hospitality Industry”.
Professor Kam-hon Lee has been active in teaching, organizing executive education programmes and conducting research projects for different hospitality organizations, including Hong Kong Tourist Association, Hong Kong Hotels Association, Hong Kong Travel Industry Council, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Hyatt International, and other groups. He is also a member of the Panel of Experts for the UNWTO (United Nation World Tourism Organization) World Tourism Barometer Study, the Hong Kong SAR Government Tourism Strategy Group and the Hong Kong Travel Industry Council.
Dr. Andy Nazarechuk is an internationally-known speaker. His works include facilitating workshops, teaching courses, and addressing conferences and conventions for hotel professionals and academics on topics ranging from human resources motivation and management to casino management. He serves on a variety of committees, including the United Nations World Tourism Panel of Tourism Experts, the Singapore Tourism Consultative Council, and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency Tourism Industry Skills and Training Council.
During the distinguished lectures, Professor Lee shared his experience in how hospitality management was developed in the Chinese University of Hong Kong while Dr. Nazarechuk introduced the importance of hospitality managers and hospitality education in the hospitality industry in Asia.
The Lecture attracted about 100 participants from related industry as well as scholars and students, all of whom enthusiastically interacted with the speakers.
