Lately Hong Kong SAR Government released the 2009 Honours List. Mr. Lau Siu-wing, former President of the University of Macau (Hong Kong) Alumni Association (UMHKAA), is in this year’s Honours List to be awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) by the Hong Kong SAR Government, in recognition of his dedication and valuable contribution to the development of the logistics industry in Hong Kong. All UM members feel greatly honored at the news.
UMHKAA threw a banquet in Hong Kong on 6 August to congratulate Mr. Lau Siu-wing on being awarded the BBS. UM Vice Rector Prof. Simon Ho as well as representatives from the Alumni Affairs Office and UM Alumni Association were also invited to attend the banquet. At the banquet, Mr. Lau Siu-wing expressed his gratitude to Hong Kong SAR Government for its support and to his alumni for their caring. He also expressed his hope that everybody can work together to make greater contributions to the development of higher education in Hong Kong and Macao. Prof. Simon Ho said that UM is immensely honored that Mr. Lau has been awarded the prestigious BBS and extolled Mr. Lau Siu-wing for his unswerving dedication to social services as well as his unremitting efforts to advancing the development of UMHKAA and the Alma Mater. He expressed his hope that Mr. Lau Siu-wing can continue to maintain close ties with the Alma Mater and support its development.
Mr. Lau Siu-wing graduated from the University of East Asia with a master’s degree in business administration. He used to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive of Baltrans Holdings Limited. In the first Logistics Awards Hong Kong 2005, he won the Outstanding Achievement Award and was recognized as one of the most outstanding entrepreneurs in the logistics industry in the world. While pursuing career development, he also spares no efforts in supporting the Alma Mater’s development. During the period from 2001 to 2002 when he served as President of University of East Asia Graduate College Alumni Association (UEAGCAA, now known as “UMHKAA”), he not only played an active role in strengthening the relationship between UM and its alumni in Hong Kong, but also established the UEAGCAA Scholarship to which he gave his full support as well. He made a donation to support the educational development of UM, as a token of his gratitude to the Alma Mater on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary.
