An international delegation of 15 members of the Society of Jesus visited the University of Macau (UM) on 15 October. The delegation was warmly received by UM Vice Rector (Research) Prof Rui Martins, Shiu Pong College Master Prof Kenneth Leung, and Faculty of Social Science professor Antonio de Saldanha.
 
Prof Martins told the guests about the milestones and the latest developments of UM, as well as the historical role of Macao in the spread of knowledge and in the pursuit of scholarship. The delegation visited the University Hall, the Central Teaching Building, UM Wu Yee Sun Library, and Shiu Pong College, in the company of Prof Antonio de Saldanha.
 
The Society of Jesus is one of the Christian male religious congregations of the Catholic Church. It founded the first Western university, the St. Paul’s College, four centuries ago in Macao. With a long history of excellence in cultural, social and educational areas, it is keen on establishing collaborative relationships with the most promising academic and cultural institutions in the region. The delegation consists of high-level members responsible for cultural, social and educational activities in the region.
