Prof. Tang Kaijian from the Department of History, Faculty of Social Sciences, published two new books, The History of the Western Xia Kingdom and The History of Northwest Minorities in Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties, via Beijing Commercial Press last month.

The two books, collectively containing approximately one million words, are of great academic value. They include ten of his representative articles on the Dangxiang and Western Xia Kingdom, the Turks and Uyghur, and the Anduo Tibetan.

Prof. Tang is a renowned scholar in the history of Chinese minorities and currently serves as the vice director of the Association of the Histories of Ethnic Groups in China. Pro. Tang has devoted himself to the study of the histories of ethnic groups in northwestern China for 35 years, and he has attained pioneering achievements in the study of the Western Xia Kingdom, the Anduo Tibetan Tribe, and the minorities in northwestern China.

His research method is modelled on the method of the renowned scholar Chen Yuan, which emphasises two aspects. The first is to collect and use as many materials as possible and the second is to conduct meticulous textual research.

The late Xiao Qiqing, former member of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan, once praised Prof. Tang for being meticulous and comprehensive in his research and original in his works.
