At the 17th "FLTRP Dangdang Cup" National English Debating Competition, which was held in Beijing, the University of Macau’s (UM) English Debating Team won the first prize and the second prize in the Best Debater Award category. 104 teams from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the competition.

The “FLTRP Cup” is by far the largest, highest-level debate competition in China. It is an annual event which lasts approximately five months and attracts over 400 universities from across the country.

UM’s English Debating Team was led by the head coach Ms. Nicole Ng Chi Mei. Debaters Maria Rebeca Aquino Pangan and Chan Cheok Wai successfully made it into the semi-final after ten rounds. In the end, they won the first prize and the second prize in the Best Debater Award.

UM’s English Debating Team will participate in the 34th World Universities Debating Championships to be held in Chennai, India, in late December.
