Tang Wei, a PhD student from the Department of Sociology, University of Macau (UM), received the First Prize Paper Award at the 2013 International Graduate Conference on “Asia in a Global Context” for her paper titled “An Assessment of Drug Abuse among College Students in Macao.”

The conference was sponsored by Shanghai University’s College of Liberal Arts and co-organised by Shanghai University, Taiwan Normal University, Hankuk (Korea) University of Foreign Studies, UM, the University of Wyoming, the University of Kentucky, and the National University of Singapore. The conference received more than 45 papers from the organising universities.

Tang Wei’s supervisor is Prof. Spencer De Li, head of the Department of Sociology. The award-winning paper is co-authored by Tang Wei, Prof. Spencer De Li, and Prof. Leung Shing On, head of the Centre for Continuing Education. The paper and Tang Wei’s presentation were highly praised by conference participants, including Prof. Zhang Yongan from Shanghai University, a leading expert in anti-drug policy studies in China.
