On 19 November 2012, the Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR passed a bill on applying Macao laws to the new University of Macau (UM) campus on Hengqin Island. Based on an earlier decision by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of PRC to authorise Macao SAR to exercise jurisdiction over the new UM campus upon its completion, the bill suggests that the new UM campus shall be governed by the laws of Macao SAR from the day the new campus is put into use to the day the lease of the land expires.
