The University of Macau (UM) is committed to supporting its faculty in reaching world class standards in teaching and research. An increasing number of faculty members, both new and experienced, are discovering the benefits of the professional development courses offered by UM’s Centre for Teaching and Learning Enhancement (CTLE).

Recently, with the help of the Information and Communication Technology Office, Student Affairs Office, and the University Library, CTLE was able to deliver 120 training hours through a balanced programme of workshops and short courses. Among the most popular were “Outcomes-based Collaborative Teaching and Learning”, “What Do You Need to Know to Be a Successful Classroom Teacher?”, “Personalize Learning with Technology”, and “UMMoodle 2.3 / Creating Course Activities Quickly”. Feedback was very positive and comments included “…the sharing of personal experiences was practical and impressive…”,  “I enjoyed going through the different suggestions on how to be successful,” and “ I most liked learning about the technology and online resources that are available for us to improve the teaching and learning experience.”

As part of its systematic research into the professional training needs and preferences of UM faculty, CTLE has recently completed a campus-wide survey, which will help it better tailor its programme in the years ahead.  So look out for more intensive short courses, lunch seminars and afternoon retreats plus the opportunity to join one of our small professional development groups.
