The University of Macau (UM) Library has introduced a new database, namely the National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation. Developed by the Library of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the database has been widely praised by universities and academic organisations around the world.
The National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation is a database that focuses on literature in the fields of philosophy and social sciences. The database contains over 17 million entries that are available for online access. They include more than 2,000 academic journals and 10 million academic papers in Chinese language, over 8,000 academic journals and 7 million academic papers in foreign languages, 2,454 titles of rare books, as well as more than 200,000 images. Among the archived material, the oldest papers date back to 1920. To access the database, click ‘國家哲學社會科學文獻中心’ under ‘Databases’ on the library’s homepage, or visit www.ncpssd.org. The website is in simplified Chinese and user registration is required for online reading or download.
In addition to the National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation, the UM Library has also subscribed to many other academic databases in the field of social sciences, including China Legal Knowledge Integrated Database (CNKI), Chinese Social Science Citation Index, Cambridge Journals Online, Oxford Journals, JSTOR, Project MUSE, and Taylor & Francis Online.
