Christmas is just around the corner! Let’s see what our students and colleagues are preparing in their kitchens for this big holiday!
Randall Tran United States
Teaching Assistant, ELC
Randall from the United States has a sweet tooth. S’mores and Caramel Apple Dipping are his two signature dishes. “S’mores is very easy to make,” says Randall. “Put some chocolate and marshmallow on a piece of gingerbread. Microwave everything for 10 seconds, and then put another piece of gingerbread on the top, and that’s it!” As for the Caramel Apple Dipping, he tailored the recipe to local preferences by using green apples instead, hoping that the sour flavour could b alance out the sweetness of caramel.
Aka Japan
Japanese Studies
“Japanese people usually make Western dishes to celebrate holidays,” says Aka. “Meat dishes, hamburgers, spaghettis and the like are staples you would see at Christmas.” Pictured is one of Aka’s
favourites—Chicken with Herbs and Garlic.
Juliana Taiwan
Portuguese Studies
“Noodle with Sesame Oil, Chicken and Rice Wine is a specialty food in Taiwan,” says Juliana. “Eating it in the cold December makes you feel warmer , and it’s very nutritious and fitting for the Christmas atmosphere as well.” The sesame oil she used was bought in Taiwan, which added a distinctive flavour to the end product.
