How many bus routes to the new campus will be available? What are the options for commuting between the current campus and the new campus? Read on to find out.
Ways of Accessing the New Campus
Regarding bus routes to the new campus, the preliminary reply from the Transport Bureau is that there will be four government-operated bus routes to the new campus, with details as follows:
1. From Hac Sa Wan to the new campus
2. From the current UM library to the new campus
3. From Seac Pai Van to the new campus
4. From the entrance of the underwater tunnel (Macao side) to the new campus
In addition to the above-mentioned government-operated bus routes, UM will provide shuttle bus service between the current campus and the new campus (with the bus stop near the Nova City or the Flower City). Also, considering that some postgraduate students will need to conduct lab tests and other work on the current campus and won’t be able to return to their dormitories on the new campus until past midnight, the university will provide all-night shuttle bus service for the convenience of these students. UM staff and students who are not living near any of the above-mentioned bus stops can choose any of the following options for accessing the new campus.
1. Take a bus at the entrance of the underwater tunnel on the Macao side and then change onto new campus-bound buses (on-campus bus stops will mainly be established on the public road sections, including the Postgraduate Houses, the Central Teaching Building/the Library/ the Administration Building/the University Hall, the bus terminal near the fire station)
2. UM staff and students who live in the Macao peninsula or Taipa could take a bus to the current University Library and then change onto new campus-bound buses or shuttle buses provided by the university
3. UM staff and students who live in the Macao peninsula, Taipa or Coloane can also take a bus to Seac Pai Van and then change onto new campus-bound buses.
The frequency of the above-mentioned buses will be adjusted according to the actual needs of UM staff and students.
Transport Arrangements within the New Campus
For environmental protection, only authorised vehicles will be allowed inside the new campus. How do UM staff and students get around the various buildings on the campus then? There are several options.
1. Walk between buildings through the interconnecting covered corridors
2. Ride a bike
3. Use the on-campus shuttle bus service provided by the university.
According to the current plan, bus stops will be distributed throughout the new campus for maximum convenience. Bus stops will be established near the Central Teaching Building/the Library, the Administration Building, the Sports Complex, Faculty of Science and Technology/Faculty of Health Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences Building/Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Law/Faculty of Education, University Mall/Postgraduate Houses.
Wonderful news for those who drive to work—you can say goodbye to the parking headache, because there will be approximately 2,500 parking spots for light vehicles and 1,200 for motorbikes on the new campus.
