Six fourth-year students of the Department of Sociology, University of Macau (UM), organised a “Change Your Mind, Change Their Life” forum on animal protection, on 9 April, with assistance from the East Asia College. Yoko Choi, president of the Abandoned Animal Protection Association of Macau (AAPAM), Josephie Lau, vice president of AAPAM, Albano Martins, president of the Animal Protection Society of Macao, and Ms. Lai, vice president of the Macau Animal Welfare Association, participated in the forum.
The forum consisted of two parts. During the first part, representatives from the three animal protection organisations introduced their work and shared their opinions on animal protection. During the second part, students and representatives from the three organisations discussed what could be done to better protect animals. A third-year student from the Faculty of Business Administration said she thinks one shouldn’t decide to bring an animal home on the spur of the moment because an animal’s life is short and keeping a pet is a huge responsibility that requires patience and time commitment.
