Knowing that the new campus architect He Jingtang was on the new campus for site inspection, a dozen UM Reporters and Student Ambassadors decided it was an opportunity not to be missed. So they went to the new campus and listened to He Jingtang explaining the four characteristics of the new campus design, which include (1) Lingnan architectural style, garden-style layout, a sense of space created by those interconnecting corridors; (2) the residential colleges’ proximity to one another; (3) separate pedestrian and vehicle systems, and (4) a mix of Lingnan style and South European style. He Jingtang told students that he loves his design for the new UM campus.
Comments of participating students
Marvin Cai: I could see the uniqueness and thoughtfulness of the design, which perfectly combines the natural environment with the learning environment. This is the kind of campus we want.
Jimmy Kwok: The design is very student-focused and well-thought-out, as reflected in zoning, routing and landscaping. Seeing the new campus helps us better understand how the environment indeed has a bearing on educating people.
Iris Lei: Only two hours of stay has left a deep impression on me. The new campus is 20 times larger than the current campus, and it offers so much more hope for the future.
Sarah Chang: After the visit I now realise that the new campus is not only a lot larger than the current campus, it’s also a lot better in terms of campus environment and facilities.
