Staff's Site Inspection to Hengqin Island
Date: 29 June, 2009
To enable staff to have a clear picture of the surrounding environment of UM's new campus site and feel its "green" atmosphere, UM organized a field-study trip on 29 June, 2009. Over 200 staff participated in this trip.
-
The new campus will be located on the eastern coast of Hengqin Island and to the south of the Lotus Bridge, just a strip of water across Macao. It will cover approximately 1.09 km2, about 20 times larger than the current campus. Once completed, it will be an efficient and eco-friendly campus that features four striking characteristics, namely "a blend of Chinese and western cultures", "a combination of mountain and sea views", "a reflection of the characteristics of Lingnan Region", and "a style reminiscent of South European flavour"
-
After arriving at the destination, everybody exclaimed excitedly "wow, it's so big!" and snapped a lot of photographs. Some took out the map of the new campus and had a heated discussion about its future planning.
-
Here are some pictures and video highlights interspersed with interviews with some staff members who shared their post-trip feelings to transport you back to that exciting day.
Comments from Staff
Professor Zhang Meifang from FSH "I'm very happy to see that our future campus site is surrounded by clear waters and green mountains. It's really beautiful. I believe our future campus can provide a better teaching and learning environment. I look forward to seeing the early completion of the new campus. I also relish the prospect of being the first to teach here." |

Associate Professor Tong Io Cheng from FLL "The air is fresh and the space is huge, the development plan for the new campus is very good, and the idea of accessing the campus without going through the border control is also wonderful. I think it's a good idea to provide on-campus accommodation for students. I also think that dedication to study is important if we want to develop students into professionals in various fields. But my concern is that some students may not be used to living on campus at first, so perhaps UM need to take some measures to assist them in this respect." |

Chan Ka U, Lab Technician from FST "I hope there will be more labs in our future campus." |
