Let 's deejay

"Canton Pop is everywhere, but in my opinion it's too common. I want something that I can relate myself to rather than just listening to the lyrics. I want the music that makes me move," said Nico Chan, a music technician in a five-star hotel, who is also a regular participant of big electro parties that are becoming popular in Macao in recent years.
Despite the ongoing popularity of pop music, deejaying has, thanks to the introduction of bigger clubs and parties into the city, also made a revolutionary step into peoples' minds in recent years. Deejays (DJs) that we often find in Macao are ones who mix music, usually electro, techno, hip hop and reggae since these genres encourage dancing. Young people like moving along with music, and music with a big beat encourage them to do so. That is why DJs are present.
"I really appreciate these parties nowadays. The music is better and there are more foreign DJs coming to this little city, which is what I had been longing for," Chan recalled the first time he was introduced to deejaying. "A friend of mine brought me to a party. The DJ put some electro elements into popular songs at that time which made the music so different and much better. That was magnificent and people started to get crazy and soon everyone was dancing along with the
beat." For some people, music is more than just listening to voices; they want to be part of it, so does Chan. "Nowadays it is much easier to start with deejaying. It can be as simple as mixing music on my own computer. I do it quite often and now I can even create a new beat out of a song by mixing a song with different elements."
He added, "I think that people are indeed becoming more open-minded towards different types of music.

Dancing along with the music is just the outcome of deejaying, the more important aspect remains to be the originality." According to Chan, every DJ has his/her own style of mixing music and that is what makes deejaying interesting. "I like creating
and so does every other DJ," Chan added. After all, DJs are also composers,
but what they create are much more than lyrics.
This city has long been dominated by the gaming industry. This has also brought along more types of entertainment including different festivals, parties and music. "It is not merely about better nightlife, it is a symbol of improvement that we are desirous to make our lives into a way that we really love instead of accepting what we have. DJs are only some of the people who are trying hard for their own dreams like many other people do," Chan ended.
