"Talking about 3D movies, the most impressive one must be 'Avatar', as it makes 3D movies revive and become more popular," said one of the students of University of Macau. "I really hope that Macao can support this kind of technology and provide us with 3D movies."
Technologies change everyday. You can go out to enjoy a spa and massage to relax, and now there is one for your visual excitements. Because of Avatar, the 3D technology has become a new hit. In America, newly released movies are mostly shown in two versions for customers to choose today, 3D or non-3D.
Simply speaking, characters are designed as 3D graphics and moving in a three-dimensional way right in front of you, with two special projectors -- one on the left and one on the right -- showing the movie at the same time. Besides, the audience needs a pair of specially made glasses to watch the movies. In the theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studio, interesting cartoons are all shown in 3D theatres.
As the neighboring city Hong Kong has already offered this kind of movie technology, which is popular among the residents. Where is a 3D theatre in Macao?
Many teenagers love Avatar too, as it is absolutely amazing to watch the characters moving right in front of you. Lam U Cheng, a Year 1 university student said, "I don't understand why there isn't one built here in Macao. Don't teenagers deserve to enjoy this exciting thing? It can also be a new attraction to tourists." According to Lam, he will release his stress from study and work through watching movies, so he prefers to have more choices.
Being a big fan of Avatar, Benjamin Hodges, Assistant Professor of English Communication, said that he supports 3D technology and would like Macao to have a real 3D cinema.
Not only in Hong Kong or more advanced foreign countries, 3D cinemas can also be found in mainland China. For example, there is one called Marslake Cinema in Zhuhai. As a super playful youngster, Rex Leong had the experience of watching a 3D movie (Alice in Wonderland) there. According to him, the cinema is quite comfortable and nice without any stinky smell. "The most important thing is that it is located nearby and the price is quite cheap. It offers more choices than Macao."
He added that Macao has lagged behind other cities too much and he is disappointed.
Quite many Macao people think that they should have their own 3D cinema here, so that they do not need to go to Hong Kong or mainland China. They also think
that it is more convenient and can have more choices for entertainment. "I think the Macao Government should put more effort into promoting and supporting the creative industry. Having a 3D theatre needs much money,
time and support," said Tan See Kan, associate professor
of English Communication.
Furthermore, people who do not have much interest in 3D movies are also attracted. A mother of two kids, Ha I Man said that if Macao cinemas provide this technology, she is willing to bring her kids to watch and it is good to
have more entertainment choices.
As a cosmopolitan city, both Hodges and Tan agree that there must be one in the future. But it takes a great deal of money and plenty of time to have this dream come true. In today's sophisticated world, 3D technologies and images are integrated into our daily life. There are not only movies, but also 3D televisions, 3D video games, digital cameras that provide the effect of 3D images. Andeven T-shirts carry 3D images!
