It was late in the evening when I was walking alone on the street. I was
left alone on the street with no reason. I tried my best to find my way
back home but I failed. Yet still, I did not give up just because I missed my
family very much. Therefore I kept on walking and smelling, searching for any
hints that would lead me home. Suddenly, a pair of high-heel shoes was
approaching me. When I looked up, I saw a young lady; she picked me up,
looked around for a moment and then brought me to her home. Since then,
my life came to a new turning point.
For the first few days, I lived happily with her. Every day, she prepared
three meals for me and I slept with her on her bed every night. However,
one day I learnt that I could not live with her anymore since her grandmother
got diabetes. Days later, a boy came and brought me to his home.
When I was at the doorway waiting for him to open the door, I heard some
familiar sound, "Woof-Woof-Woof!" When the door was opened, a dog
rushed out and welcomed me happily. I was very excited to meet a new friend.
She showed me around the home, shared her toy with me and played with me. I
had not been so happy for such a long time and in a minute; I came to love this
home and this family. I believe I can live happily ever after with the love of my
owner, Choi Hak Man. Every morning, my owner feeds me breakfast and puts
some more food in my bowl in case I am hungry. Every night he brings us out for
a walk and this is my new and lovely life.
The dog, FiFi, was really lucky because she was picked up by a loving
lady who tried her best to search for a good home for her. Otherwise, she may
still be wandering in the streets or be sent to an abandoned animal home.
Nowadays, there are many abandoned dogs wandering around, mainly due to
their irresponsible owners. As pet owners, they should not abandon their pets
for any reason. Once they decide to adopt a pet, they should take up a lifetime
responsibility of taking care of it.
In Macao, there is also a non-profit organization, the Abandoned Animals
Protect Association of Macao, which takes care of abandoned animals. Established in October 2004 by a group of people who strive to protect and respect animals, it promotes the responsibility of a lifetime promise for pet owners. Moreover, it
provides a temporary shelter for abandoned pets until they find a new family.
In the end, as what Choi did, we should treat our pets as our family members. Once we have taken the responsibility to be a pet owner, we should give the best to our pets and let them feel the love and warmth from human beings.
