With several years of effort, the new Charter of the University of Macau (UM) came into effect on September 1, 2006. Dr. Daniel Chi-Wai Tse, Chair of the University Council (UC), elaborated extensively on the significance of the transformation and benefits UM has gained from this restructuring.

On the campus of UM, there are an increasing number of "foreign" students: they are students from mainland China and other countries. Macau, for all of them, is not their hometown. In this sense, feeling homesick is natural for them.

The Information and Communication Technology Office (ICTO) of the University of Macau (UM) released a new policy in June for the University's computer rooms to strictly enforce the rule that forbids eating and drinking in computer rooms.
