Two University of Macau (UM) students, Mr Chan Weng Kin from the Faculty of Science and Technology and Ms Wong Wei Chin from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, received the Young Researcher Award 2012, from the International Institute of Macau, for their research projects entitled “Effect of Heat Treatment and Laser Surface Treatment on Corrosion Behavior of Stainless Steels and "Macao in Bristish Malaya: The Emigration and the Formation of Chinese Community in Malaya, 1810-1870”, respectively. Mr Chan’s paper was jointly supervised by Prof Kwok Chi Tat and Dr Lo Kin Ho. Ms Wong’s paper was supervised by Robert James Antony.
Established in 2002, the Young Researcher Award aims to promote scientific research in issues of interest to the local community and to recognise important research projects developed by students and researchers from local higher education institutions.
