Ice creams are sweet and relaxing—obviously even more
so when they are free! Yesterday (24 April) noon, over 200 University of Macau
(UM) students queued up in front of the Recreational Area on campus, waiting for
a taste of the free ice cream. The long queue snaked to the Ho Yin Convention
Centre, and within less than an hour, all ice creams were gone. It turned out
this semester-end free ice cream treat was organised by UM’s Dean of Students
Dr. Peter Yu and his colleagues, in hopes of helping students to relieve stress
at the approach of exams. Dr. Yu said that this was the first time the Student
Affairs Office had organised this activity, and they wanted to show students
that the university cares deeply about them and hope to help them prepare for
the approaching exams with a more relaxed frame of mind. Dr. Yu noted that in
the future he and his colleagues will continue to organise more activities
according to the students’ interests and needs.
