In
an age that champions individuality, it must be really tough being the university
emblem, because there are so many identical copies of it. Walk around the
campus, and you will see it everywhere. If there were a “One of a Kind Award
for Emblem”, it would deservedly go to the emblem in the conference room T307
in the Tai Fung Building. At first glance, there may seem to be nothing special
about this emblem, until you look closer and touch it. Turns out this emblem is
woven into the carpet. It was an ingenious idea of Prof. Iu Vai Pan, former
rector and the current master of the East Asia College. The purpose was to
remove glare from the emblem for optimum photographic results. The colour pale
beige was chosen because it was considered more dirt-proof than white.
