The University of Macau’s (UM) new campus and the eight residential colleges have become fully operational since the start of the new academic year. About 10,000 students, faculty members and staff are now studying and working on the new campus, bringing a huge challenge to UM in terms of facilities management.
Two days prior to the start of the new semester, some residential colleges and facilities experienced various problems, including mechanical and electrical breakdown, network breakdown, and problems with the water supply system and sewage system. In each case, UM colleagues as well as staff from the building contractor, Guangdong Nam Yue Gorup Co. Ltd, swung into action, and managed to solve the problems within a relatively short time. And at least 20 staff from UM and the building contractor have since been on night duty in case of the need for emergency repairs.
