Hot Pots in College Kitchen

For those with culinary talents, there is one more dining option on the new campus besides eating at restaurants—cooking in the kitchens of the various residential colleges. Second-year student Qiao Fei has been a frequent user of her college’s kitchen over the past year. Her signature dishes include Uygur-style Big Plate Chicken and Uygur-style Noodles. “The college is like a residential community, and every time you cook in the kitchen, all you need to do is give a holler in the hallway, and many students will rush to the kitchen to help you and then finish up all the food in a matter of minutes,” says Qiao. If you are one of those who feel cooking is too much trouble, Qiao suggests that you could buy some frozen food and make a hot pot with a bunch of friends.

Apart from cooking, Qiao also loves to take a walk with friends by the lake at sunset. “This is what I enjoy the most about living on the new campus,” Qiao says.

Arrow Liu, who is also a second-year student, thinks the TV room is also a good place. “Not only can you watch TV there, you can also chat with old friends over snacks and make new friends,” says Liu. 

Get Around the Campus on Bike 

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be constantly on a bike at work? Well, that’s pretty much what Winson Cheang, a colleague from the Information and Communications Technology Office who started working on the new campus a year ago, has been doing these days. One of the go-to persons for computer problems, Winson gets around different departments on a bicycle. The benefit is three-fold. First, it’s much easier and faster to get around a campus that is 20 times the size of the old one on a bike than on foot. Second, it fits in perfectly with the university’s plan to create a low-carbon campus. Third, as Winson jokes, it serves as a form of exercise and helps him to keep fit.

Winson usually goes to the Food Paradise or Pacific Coffee for lunch. From time to time he also orders takeout with his coworkers. For restaurants that set a minimum order amount for delivery service, you can invite more people to pitch in. If you feel like eating outside, you can take a bus to the area around Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro in Macao, as Macao-bound buses make zero to one stop and therefore are faster than Taipa-bound buses.
