The University of Macau (UM) English Debating Team won several awards at the First Macau Asian Parliamentary Debate Open, which was held at Macau Polytechnic Institute on 25 April and 26 April. Organised by the Macau English Debating Association, the competition attracted 30 debate teams from South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Sindy Leong Sin Ieng, captain of UM’s English Debating Team, won the Overall Third Best Speaker Award and the Local First Best Speaker Award.
UM’s English Debating Team participated in the
competition as three teams. Team A made it to the quarter final with a perfect
score of 5 wins, while member Alba Zhu Yujing won the Local Best Speaker Award.
Team B (members including Becky Lam Pek Kei, Alex Fong Cheok Wang, and Kida Lam
Si Cheong) and Team C (members including Ellen Wang Ningning, Eurnice Lam Chi
Sin, and Sophie Kuok Sao Man) made it to the quarter final at the 6th and 7th
places respectively, both with 3 wins. Team B also won the Best Local Team
Award.
Sindy Leong Sin Ieng and Kitty Kwok In will participate in the ‘FLTRP
Cup’ National English Debating Competition 2015 to be held in Beijing in
mid-May.
