The University of Macau (UM) has been ranked No 40 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2015. This is the first time UM has been ranked among the top 100 Asian universities. UM’s Vice Rector Lionel Ni thinks the ranking shows that the university’s effort in the past five years towards the goal of becoming a world-class university is beginning to show results.
Occupying the top three spots in the rankings are the University of Tokyo, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Hong Kong. Peking University and Tsinghua University in mainland China are ranked No 4 and No 5 respectively. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is ranked No 7. Japan and South Korea did the best in the rankings, with five universities from Japan and four from South Korea ranked among the top 20.
