UM is dedicated to producing high-calibre professionals. The university now offers the UM Macao PhD Scholarship to encourage outstanding students to pursue PhD degrees at UM. In addition, UM offers assistantship for PhD students. Recipients are required to perform research- or teaching-related duties so that they can gain relevant experience while studying for their degrees.
UM Macao PhD Scholarship
The recipient of this scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of MOP 20,000 and a conference- and research-related travel allowance of MOP10,000 per academic year, for up to four years.
Eligibility and Application Process
Those who are seeking admission as full-time PhD students at UM, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience, or ethnic background, are eligible to apply.
Bachelor’s or master’s students from reputable universities (universities ranked among the top 200 in any recognised world university rankings or those under Project 985 or Project 211 in mainland China are preferable).
Applicants are required to select full-time PhD programmes offered by UM. They are required to submit the application for the scholarship directly to UM at the time they submit the application for admission. Whether applicants will be selected as scholarship recipients is subject to the final decision of UM.
The UM Macao PhD Scholarship for the 2019/2020 academic year is now open for applications. Those whose applications are approved on or before 30 April 2019 will be admitted in August 2019.

UM PhD Assistantship
In addition to scholarships, UM PhD students can apply for assistantship for the 2019/2020 academic year. Upon approval of the application, students will become teaching or research assistants and will receive a monthly stipend of MOP12,500.
