The University of Macau (UM) and the China Society of Education (CSE) have jointly launched a training programme for primary and secondary school principals and teachers in Macao. An opening ceremony for the first cohort of the programme was held today (17 October), along with the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between UM and CSE. Through the training programme and other collaborative initiatives, UM and CSE aim to promote the exchange of school management and teaching experiences between Macao and mainland China, enhance the professional skills and innovation of primary and secondary school principals and teachers, and nurture educators for the new era.
Speaking at the event, Wang Jiayi, vice minister of education of China, expressed hope that the training programme will serve as a catalyst for the integrated development of education between mainland China and Macao and help build China into a leading country in education. He also encouraged the participants to actively engage in educational innovation, put their learning into practice, and contribute to educational innovation and reform.
Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of the Macao SAR Government, said that the Macao government has launched various initiatives to nurture and attract talent for the high-tech industry, adding that it will focus on enhancing artificial intelligence education for students. She also expressed hope that the participants will inject new impetus into educational development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Yonghua Song, rector of UM, said that the joint training programme aims to establish a platform for exchange between educators in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. He also expressed hope that the participants will put theoretical knowledge into practice, and drive innovation and development in primary and secondary education.
Witnessed by Wang and Ao Ieong, Song and Yang Yinfu, secretary general of CSE, signed the memorandum of understanding. During his time at UM, Wang also had in-depth discussions with Song on UM’s development.
