UM sweeps three championships at inter-varsity debate competition

The University of Macau (UM) Cantonese Debating Team and Mandarin Debating Team each won a championship at a local inter-varsity debate competition organised by the Tertiary Education Services Office. The Cantonese Debating Team has won the championship of this competition for four consecutive years. In addition, UM’s English Debating Team last month won its ninth consecutive championship at this competition, which means UM has swept all the championships at this year’s competition.

UM’s Cantonese Debating Team placed first in the preliminaries. The team then beat their counterpart from Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM), and another team from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in the final.

UM’s Mandarin Debating Team beat their counterparts from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and IPM in the preliminaries. They then beat a team from MUST in the semifinal and another team from the City University of Macau in the final.
