The University of Macau (UM), Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) jointly held a sharing session on Prof Jao Tsung-I’s stories in Macao at UM today (10 May). The event brought together experts, scholars, colleagues, friends and family members closely related to Prof Jao from Macao and Hong Kong, as well as university and secondary school students and teachers from both places.
Speaking at the event, Yonghua Song, rector of UM, said that Prof Jao, who had served as chair professor in the Faculty of Arts, as well as director of the Department of Chinese Literature and History at the University of East Asia, the predecessor of UM, played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for UM’s remarkable development in Chinese disciplines. Song also expressed his gratitude to Prof Jao’s consistent support for the university’s academic and research development, particularly in the humanities. In his speech, Lee Chack Fan, director of Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of HKU, talked about Prof Jao’s dedication to academic research and his exhibitions held in Macao.
The sharing session was divided into two parts. The first part was a panel discussion, where experts and scholars shared Prof Jao’s stories in Macao, such as the exhibitions he organised and his contributions to Macao’s cultural industry. The second part featured presentations by students from Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology of HKBU. They explored Prof Jao’s connection with different places from different aspects and angles, including his academic publications and artistic creations.
