The University of Macau (UM) English Debating Team won six awards in the 19th Macau Inter-tertiary English Debating Competition, including the championship, two second runner-ups, the Grand-final Best Speaker, and two Best Speaker awards. Since 2006, the UM English Debating Team has won 11 consecutive championships in the competition.
The debate competition included three sections, the preliminary round, the semi-final round, and the final round. A total of 16 teams comprising students from four higher education institutions in Macao competed in the competition. Among them, six teams were from the UM English Debating Team, one of which has just been ranked among the top eight teams in Asia. Three of the teams entered the final round with their outstanding performance. After several rounds of competition, the UM A team, formed by Pang Lam and Tang Cheok Man, won the championship. Both the UM C team, formed by Lao Pak Fai and Zhang Kai, and the UM D team, formed by Cheong Chi I and Cheong Ian Tong, won a second-runner up. In addition, Pang Lam, Tang Cheok Man, and Cheong Ian Tong won the Overall Best Speaker, the Grand-final Best Speaker, and the Fifth Best Speaker, respectively.
