The University of Macau (UM) today (26 May) held a talk titled ‘The Characteristics of Contemporary Chinese Legal Theories and the Essential Features of the Construction of Rule of Law’ as part of the University Lecture Series. Mo Jihong, director of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and dean of the School of Law, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was the keynote speaker.

In his speech, Vice Rector Ge Wei said that UM’s Faculty of law will launch the Bachelor of Law in Chinese Law and Global Legal Studies in 2023. The new programme will provide students with a unique opportunity to master the key legal topics in legal education in the People’s Republic of China and to study key elements of the globalised international legal system.

During the talk, the speaker analysed the historical, theoretical, and practical logic of the emergence and formation of President Xi Jinping’s thought on the rule of law. He made an in-depth analysis of the legal basis and functional effects of the important theoretical propositions of the theory of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics in the new era. He also made a scientific interpretation of the legal significance of the path of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics.
