The University of Macau (UM) Mandarin Debating Team recently won the championship of an inter-varsity invitational debate competition in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Xu Chongchao, a first-year postgraduate student in the Faculty of Science and Technology, was named the best debater in the competition’s quarter-final, semi-final, and final, and received the title of ‘Overall Best Debater’.
During the competition, the UM team beat their counterparts from Shantou University, South China University of Technology, Shenzhen University, and the Southern University of Science and Technology.
Organised by the Macau University of Science and Technology, the competition invited debating teams from 16 outstanding universities in the Greater Bay Area. Because of the epidemic, the competition was held online. This is the second debate championship that the UM team has won this year in the Greater Bay Area.
