Mr. Han Qide, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, honorary doctor of the University of Macau (UM), and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with his entourage, yesterday visited UM and served as the keynote speaker for UM’s 30th Anniversary Lecture Series—Distinguished Scientist Forum. His topic was “the nurturing of innovative people and the expansion of Chinese medicine”. Eighty staff and students from the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) attended the lecture during which Mr. Han discussed with the audience about the meaning of life and innovation.

The delegation led by Mr. Han was warmly received by UM’s University Council Chair Dr. Tse Chi Wai, UM Rector Wei Zhao, and ICMS Director Prof. Wang Yitao. During the meeting, Rector Wei Zhao updated Mr. Han on the latest developments of the new campus as well as the major academic and research achievements UM has attained in recent years. Mr. Han highly approved of UM’s developments and even wrote two lines to congratulate UM on its thirtieth anniversary. The two lines described UM as a “cradle for nurturing future leaders” and a “cornerstone of society’s prosperity and progress”.
