The Fourth IEEE International Conference on Grey Systems and Intelligent Service (GSIS 2013), co-hosted by the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics’s College of Economics and Management, was held at UM on 16 November and 17 November. More than 80 experts, scholars and students from around the world, including mainland China, Macao, Taiwan, Romania, and the United States, attended the conference.

The conference aims to provide a platform for participants to share their new findings on grey systems, knowledge management systems, grey system theory, information uncertainty, and intelligent services.

This year’s conference focused on grey system theory and its application, including system analysis; modelling and simulation; system prediction, decision-making and control; data mining and artificial intelligence; evolution and control of social, economic, and ecological systems; service science and engineering; as well as emergency management and technology innovation management.

Officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Prof. Haydn Chen, vice rector (student affairs) of UM; Prof. Nie Hong, president of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Prof. Philip Chen, Dean of UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology; Prof. Der-Chiang Li, distinguished professor in the Department of Industrial and Information Management at Cheng Kung University, Taiwan; and Prof. Liu Sifeng, Dean of the College of Economics and Management at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
