To support the SAR government’s policy on talent development, UM encourages local youth to pursue further education to enhance their professional knowledge and skills. It also provides various kinds of financial support and opportunities for those who wish to pursue a career in research. To encourage more outstanding students to devote themselves to research, UM offers three options of entering a PhD programme, namely general entry, accelerated entry, and direct entry.
The admission process for 2015/2016 postgraduate programmes (phase-1) is still ongoing. This year, UM received 3,000 applications from around the world for postgraduate programmes, up nearly 15 per cent from last year. Some of the applicants for the PhD programmes are graduates from renowned universities, including the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Edinburgh, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Lisbon.
