The University of Macau (UM) today (16 October) signed a collaboration framework agreement with the Guangdong-Macau Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park Development Co Ltd. Both parties agree to form a strategic partnership to develop new pharmaceutical products and promote Chinese medicine industries in Guangdong and Macao. A main objective of the partnership is to establish four centres, each with a different function, namely quality assessment, pilot production, research and development, and technical training.

The signing ceremony was held at Ho Yin Conference Hall. Wei Zhao, rector of UM, and Lv Hong, chairman of the board of Guangdong-Macau Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park Development Co Ltd, signed the collaboration framework agreement on behalf of their respective institutes. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Leong Vai Tac, secretariat for economy and finance; Dr Lam Kam Seng, chair of UM’s University Council; members of the board of directors of Guangdong-Macau Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park Development Co Ltd; Choi Peng Cheong, director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Affairs; Prof Rui Martins, vice rector (research) of UM; and Wang Yitao, director of UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (University of Macau).
